Banana Bread

If you have been reading my posts you already know that I am not a baker. However, it is on my list of things to learn for 2011. So far I’m still relying on my wife. While I was watching football this past Sunday, this is what she baked. The recipe came from the internet and was titled Best Ever Banana Bread. I think when you taste it you wont argue with the title. You can find the original on but she didn’t change anything so no need to go looking any further.


2 very ripe bananas mashed

2 eggs

1 3/4 cups of sifted all-purpose flour

1 cup of granulated sugar

1 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1/4 cup buttermilk (We used Calders if you live in Michigan, it was unbelievable)

1 additional tablespoon of buttermilk

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon banana extract

1/2 teaspoon of salt

Directions:Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a bread pan (she used aluminum non stick). Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Transfer to the bread pan. Bake until the top is golden and slightly split. Ours took 1hr 10 minutes. The original called for 1hr 20 minutes. The recipe also said not to double the recipe for some reason.

    This was by far the best banana bread I’ve ever tasted.
